The Penguins of Promise Island: A Story for Passover
As Forest, the Emperor Penguin chick, looks out at the sea and waits for his mother’s return, he considers the stories his father has told him. Their colony was in trouble — changes in the weather along with an increase in fishing ships has made life particularly difficult for all the penguins — and yet, the elders refused to leave.
But when some of the mother penguins do not return from their feeding, the elders finally relent — and the colony seeks out to find a new home … on Promise Island.
NOTE: As the story of Passover includes plague, violence and death, this penguin allegory contains references to hunger, predation, and loss. Young children sensitive to these themes should wait for parent approval before listening.
