Rainy Day Help
Martin and Sylvia's family gets a phone call one chilly afternoon from Mr. Brown, wondering if they could help him pick the last apples in his orchard before a hard frost arrives. Brother and sister don't want to leave their cozy couch to potentially get wet in the rain on a chilly afternoon, but they join Momma and Daddy anyway. Over the course of the next few hours, they are filled with the special warmth and strength that come from helping a friend in need. And the special treat at the end of the day fills them up too!
Projects, Crafts, and Recipes for this Story

Sparkle Kitchen: Caramel Apple Bites
While I think I probably consumed some of those big, juicy caramel apples in two or three bites back then, as a grown-up I find that it’s hard to eat a whole caramel apple in one sitting. These days I prefer to make little caramel apple bites, like the recipe that follows, instead.

Sparkle Kitchen: Chai Spiced Milk
“Chai” is the Hindi word for “tea”, so ordering a “chai tea” is technically redundant. Nonetheless, in America, the word “chai” is commonly associated with a blend of warm spices like cardamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon. A “chai tea”, as we call it, is a blend of those spices in a milky tea.
Sparkle Kitchen: Mrs. Brown's Apple Turnovers
Inspired by the story "Rainy Day Help", we adapted this gluten-free apple turnover recipe by including almond meal and cutting the sugar — two modifications that brought this treat more in line with our typical family eating habits.
