Friday's Kind Words: Always Just Right
We have been long time Sparkle Story fans. My oldest is 9 and my middle daughter is 4. I've been touched when they spin their own stories in Martin and Sylvia-esque ways when they are newly talking. I love it when they start writing and bits of stories come out, or the little parts that matter to their days.
Here's a little something my 4-year-old wrote the other day:
SiLitNUtOWeiNNOt OiZKOMOLiZBRUt FUMMRtiNADSiLV eUSoGANSBRKLStUR USONTOTOZITRTeN
With spaces: SiLit NUt OWeiN NOt O iZ KOM OL iZ BRUt FUM MRtiN AD SiLVeU SoG AN SBRKL StURUS ON TOTOZI TRTeN
Can you guess the first two lines? I'll give a hint--it's a Christmas Song :-) Here, with spelling and punctuation:
Silent Night, Holy Night All is calm, all is bright From Martin and Sylvia song and Sparkle Stories on two-thousand thirteen
She drew a lovely, sweet picture with it too. I am truly grateful for your stories. We read a lot, and when picking up a new book, it can be a challenge to know if the story is just right for a 4-year-old, a 9-year-old and a new baby. Your stories are always just right. I never worry about the content or feel the need to skip parts, edit or just decline listening. Sometimes we get half-way through a book before we decide it's just not right for one age or another and thankfully my girls are good at coming to that conclusion on their own now. I think it's helpful for kids to know where and when they need to filter the information that comes into their minds.
With much gratitude for the work you do-- ~Jennifer
