Friday's Kind Words: Talents & Nurturing
We have been listening and LOVING the Sparkle Stories here in our family for a few months now. We didn't have much screen time before but fazed off of it completely this year, so it has been a wonderful blessing to have Sparkle Stories in our library.
Storytelling has always been an important part of our daily rhythm. I fortunately grew up with a father who possessed the gift and it has been such a joy to pass that magic onto our 5 yr old son. When we are not engaged with him, it has been a great comfort to know that his little ears & imagination are being nurtured by like-minded parents. The tone and pace of the teller's voice is great, and our boy is captivated every second.
He has been listening mostly on earphones, so the other day when I suggested we play it on the speakers so we could all enjoy, he seriously objected, as he wanted it all to himself. I immediately realized that he had developed a personal love for this story time where he looked forward to stepping away and entering his own world of imagination. It wasn't a matter of sharing, but it showed he is, for the first time, experiencing the joy of going on a story adventure all by himself. I pointed out to him how special that is and how he can look forward to that same feeling when he learns to read, and opens that magical world through each book.
