Announcing! Our newest Series — Dry Gables: Hands Together!
The second Dry Gables Series is officially underway!
Dry Gables: Hands Together
Dry Gables: Hands Together builds on the first Series – now focusing on the relationships between the Gold Rush era characters you have grown to love!
This series has plenty of American history and United States geography - plus they are all tailored to be used by parents and educators as a way of better understanding their children.
Not familiar with Dry Gables?
These stories, ideally suited for children 8 years or older, are unique in the Sparkle Stories library in that they are tailored to be used by parents and educators as a way of better understanding their children.
From Meredith Markow, Dry Gables co-creator and Sparkle Schoolhouse Educator:
“In our Dry Gables characters, we have portrayed nine basic ways that individuals can express themselves, and in exploring the desires, fears and motivations that often inform what our children express, we now have the key to how to better support them. Our characters in Dry Gables can help you to identify not only what kind of personality your child might identify with, but also in getting to know our characters, and maybe your child a little better, you can see what their behaviors, actions, words and emotions are telling you what they need.”
From David, Dry Gables Story Spinner:
“The town of Dry Gables South Dakota is the whole person – expressed in nine different characters. From the protective and stubborn blacksmith Johann, to the loyal yet anxious dry good proprietors Franz and Lena to the adventurous pony express rider Jane – the citizens of Dry Gables demonstrate what all children feel every day – and they do it in the gold rush era of the black hills!”
In the original Dry Gables Series, we asked the question:
“What are our children’s actions, behaviors, words and emotions really communicating to us?”
In the new Dry Gables: Hands Together Series, we ask the question:
“What are our children telling us that they need ‘more of’ to bring them into balance, especially in times of stress?"
In Dry Gables: Hands Together we're adding another layer to the rubric of understanding your child. The stories in this season all center around a particular character working in partnership with another character in being supported to be their best, especially in a moment when they may be struggling.
From Meredith:
“Through the relationships in Dry Gables, we see what we need ‘more of’ in order to level what may be out of balance. Sometimes, it’s just not possible to directly diminish the behaviors that we want ‘less of’, but rather by turning the volume up on what is missing, our stressors can naturally fall away.”
From David:
“In this series, Wilhelm the town planner learns from his fun-loving wife Jane how to release the great burden of perfectionism. Liesl Herz, the dedicated and caring nurse learns how to better understand her feelings from the empathetic school teacher Seamus. Each character gets what they need from someone else in the community – and our listeners learn some essential skills while laughing, sighing and nodding through the stories.”
Every one of the stories in both seasons is accompanied by a video and blog post that pulls out the lesson and practical skills you can try at home.

In our most recent SparkleCast episode, Meredith, David, and Rebecca talk about Sparkle Schoolhouse!
They discuss how the Dry Gables story series can be used to better understand your child: their fears, their desires, their relationships, and how they prefer to be motivated.
