A Message about our Popular History Collection FIFTY: Fifty Stories for Fifty States
The FIFTY collection was created as an investigation of the United States of America (and its territories) with a particular eye towards stories of First Nation people and immigrants. In attempting to tell stories of kindness, empathy, and compassion, we chose to represent historical figures and events with a perceived latitude afforded to historical fiction. As we have reflected on these stories, we have begun noticing that some of the stories and characters lack the level of historical accuracy and sensitivity that we would ultimately hope for Sparkle Stories. Because our aim is always to write content that teaches kindness, empathy, and compassion, we feel compelled to review and remedy these errors in order to provide content that is consistent with our mission. We are thrilled to enter into this new stage of revising FIFTY — a living process that will allow us to regularly update stories as we grow in our understanding of the beauty and richness of the United States and all of its complexities.
Seven of the stories in this collection have been removed for review, while the rest are being audited for historical accuracy and conscious language. If deemed necessary, we will rewrite, edit, and re-record or replace with a story consistent with our mission.
