Sparkle Weekly Wonderings
September 1, 2018
“Buckle up!” “Keep your hands to yourself.” “Stay on your side of the vehicle.” “We will get there soon!”
These phrases are all-too-commonly issued from the front seat to the back seat. Getting to school, to practice, to the store, to our friends houses — it often involves strapping into a car and then … driving there. Not many people enjoy the “getting there” but it simply can’t be avoided. So … what to do?
Car games are good but require parental involvement. Music is good but requires parental moderation. And since parents are less inclined these days to hand over the devices that don’t require involvement or moderation, we arrive once again … in Sparkle Land!
All of our stories work brilliantly for car rides. Whether individual stories or full series, they will all entertain children and give parents a break. If you take a moment to curate your “Story Box,” you can build the perfect playlist for your trip. Going to Utah? Play them stories about Utah from the Fifty collection. Headed to a doctor’s appointment? Search “doctor” and find a half dozen stories to fit the bill. Traveling to a friend’s house? Family reunion? Library? Airport? We have stories for any and every trip. Take us along — we’ll hold your kids while you keep your eyes on the road. Or maybe … you might just find yourself listening, too!
About the Author
David Sewell McCann
David Sewell McCann fell in love with spinning stories in first grade – the day a storyteller came to his class and captured his mind and imagination. He has been engaged in storytelling all of his adult life through painting, film-making, teaching and performing. Out of his experience as a Waldorf elementary class teacher and parent, he has developed a four step method of intuitive storytelling, which he now shares through workshops and through this website.
